Today is a great day for the Billion Child Foundation.
The South African Council for Educators (SACE) advised us today that they have accredited and registered our Win-Win Parenting Programme.
This means that the thousands of teachers who BCF trained to facilitate this programme can retrospectively claim professional development points and will also be able to claim PDPs when they present future programmes to parents and attend refresher training workshops.
This is a big deal as all teachers volunteer their time to present the Programme to parents at their schools after school hours and it now provides them with an extra reward/incentive for presenting the programme to parents each year.
This Programme, which teachers present in the local language at their schools annually teaches parents the practical parenting skills they need to raise their children to be confident, self-reliant individuals who will succeed in the future.
It also teaches parents the importance of talking up education in the home, supporting the teacher when the child has not performed, ensuring their children read and do homework daily, study for examinations, attend school daily and remain at school until they matriculate.
Its success can be judged by the Northern Cape Department of Education reporting that at the 109 schools where teachers presented the Programme, homework completion, school attendance, marks and progression rates are all UP while the dropout rate is DOWN.
This registration will enable the Billion Child Foundation to confidently approach funders as all BCF programmes presented in South Africa have now been accredited and registered by SACE.
