A last minute change scores BIG!

15 November 2019

Last Monday I was supposed to address the Customer Engagement Summit 2019 in London on the topic of winning and retaining corporate donor organisations.

While reviewing the programme of speakers the previous weekend I realised all the speakers, myself included, were talking about their achievements in enagaging customers, clients or patients.

Rather than be one of many, I decided to throw away my presentation and develop a completely new one focusing on providing the attendees with hard practical skills they could take home and implement immediately personnally or by training their colleagues, including call centre personnel.

Much of the material I presented was from our Schools Centre of Excellence Programme where we train school inspectors to train and empower the principals who report to them to turn their schools into centres of excellence. Examples provided to conference attendees included the Four Steps of Listening and the Four Steps of Praising. How to identify the customer personalities over the phone or face to face in order to provide each customer with an answer set out in the format which they will easily respond to.

The presentation was a great success. I'm glad I was able to help so many people.

If anyone would like a copy of the PowerPoint presentation or to discuss my presentation please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Our CEO to speak at Customer Engagement Summit 2019 in London

7 November 2019

Our CEO, Alan J Whitaker, has been invited to deliver a presentation entitled Winning Hearts, Minds and Money of Donors at Customer Engagement Summit 2019 in London on the 11th November at 12:05

During his presentation he will explain that persuading philanthropists, corporate donors and government ministries to invest relatively large amounts of money in a charity they have never heard of requires courtship of a very high order. But persuading them to trust you year after year requires a very special relationship.

Over 1,200 delgates are expected to attend.

The Summit will be held at the Park Plaza, 200 Westminster Bridge Road London.

Through diversity strength.

The members of this Springbok team speak at least five different home languages!

This provides a lesson to the leaders and peoples of the world that winning together is possible and essential to tackle major initiatives such as climate change, poverty or the poor state of public school education in almost every country.

It is estimated that there are more than a million under-performing schools globally. We must give every child the opportunity to attend a local government school which operates as a centre of excellence. The Billion Child Foundation Education Districts Centre of Excellence Programme will enable every national ministry of education to turn every school into a centre of excellence within five years. We need funds to inform Ministries of Education in every country of this proven programme. Please support the Billion Child Foundation.

Great advice for parents and teachers

I don't know how you felt about homework but to me it seemed that teachers somehow thought that quantity was more important than quality. And so they loaded us with hours of resented repetitive homework each day.

An article published today in the Australian Teacher Bulletin provides recommendations based on peer reviewed research for parents and teachers.

I have amended these recommendations as follows

1. Quality of homework set is more important than quality.

2. Homework given by secondary school teachers improves academic outcomes providing it is related to current in-class teaching.

3. Academic results improve when

  • Parents show regular interest and encouragement in their child's homework.
